At present, the situation in the Canadian ports of Prince Rupert and Vancouver continues to deteriorate, with record-breaking times for import containers. In response, CN Rail will take several steps to restore mobility to the transport network by establishing multiple bailout container yards to move.
Recently, Maersk has issued a notice of charges for MPT customers’ Toronto/Montreal port transportation charges, and the charges are reflected in the form of import surcharges. Last month, Maersk’s official website pointed out that the utilization rate of the Centerm terminal in the Port of Vancouver has reached 113%; the utilization rate of the Port of Prince Rupert is as high as 117%, and the average container dwell time is 9.2 days.
As a result, CN Rail charges a fee for shipping containers to designated yards, effective August 9, 2022. This fee applies to all store door cargo provided by MPT (i.e. Maersk Preferred Truck Driver), and the container must be transported to one of the bailout container yards.
Charge Details:
• CN Rail Mississauga: $300
• Container Storage Solutions (Brampton): $300
• Paul Transport: $300
• CN Valleyfield (Montreal): $550
Rail storage free time at the aforementioned locations has also been reduced from 2 days to 1 day.
