On February 5, 2022, Canada reported to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) that a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) subtype occurred in a turkey farm in the country on January 30.
General Administration of Customs and other official department made the following announcement:
1. Prohibit the direct or indirect import of poultry and related products from Canada (derived from unprocessed poultry or products that are processed but still likely to spread diseases), and stop issuing the “Import Action Plan” for importing poultry and related products from Canada. Phytosanitary Permit”, and cancel the “Entry Animal and Plant Quarantine Permit” that has been issued within the validity period.
2. Poultry and related products from Canada shipped from the date of this announcement shall be returned or destroyed. Poultry and related products from Canada that are shipped before the date of this announcement shall be subject to enhanced quarantine, and shall be released only after passing the quarantine.
3. It is prohibited to send or bring into the country poultry and their products from Canada. Once found, it will be returned or destroyed.
4. Animal and plant wastes, swill, etc. unloaded from inbound ships, aircrafts and other means of transport from Canada shall be treated with decontamination under the supervision of the customs, and shall not be discarded without authorization.
5. Poultry and its products from Canada that are illegally entered by border defense and other departments shall be destroyed under the supervision of the customs.
