MSC Group has confirmed that its wholly-owned subsidiary SAS Shipping Agencies Services has completed the acquisition of Bolloré Africa Logistics. MSC said the deal has been approved by all regulators. So far, MSC, the world’s largest container liner company, has acquired the ownership of this large logistics operator in Africa, which will provide services to a series of ports across the continent.
As early as the end of March 2022, MSC announced the acquisition of Bolloré Africa Logistics, saying that it had reached a share purchase agreement with Bolloré SE to acquire 100% of Bolloré Africa Logistics, including all the shipping, logistics and terminal businesses of Bolloré Group in Africa , and terminal operations in India, Haiti and Timor-Leste. Now the deal with a total price of 5.7 billion euros has finally been completed.
According to its statement, MSC’s acquisition of Bolloré Africa Logistics SAS and its subsidiary “Bolloré Africa Logistics Group” underscores MSC’s long-term commitment to investing in supply chains and infrastructure in Africa, supporting the needs of both corporate clients.
MSC will launch a new brand in 2023, and Bolloré Africa Logistics Group will operate as an independent entity under a new name and brand, continuing to work with its diverse partners; while Philippe Labonne will continue as President of Bolloré Africa Logistics.
MSC intends to continue to strengthen trade links between the African continent and the rest of the world, and to promote intra-African trade while implementing continental free trade. “Backed by MSC Group’s financial strength and operational expertise, Bolloré Africa Logistics will be able to fulfill all its commitments to the government, especially with regard to port right of special permission.” the shipping company said in the announcement.
